Can you imagine? Today it would be the officers gambling, but those were days of honor, integrity and respect for God. The Captain informed the soldier that if the charge was true, he would punish him severely. In his defense the soldier showed how he used a deck of cards when there was no Bible. Spread out before him, the Ace stood for the one true God, the King reminded him that Jesus Christ was the King of kings and Lord of lords, the Queen was the Virgin Mary, chosen from all women to bear the Christ-child, God in the flesh. The Jack-nave was Satan, fallen Lucifer. I liked the song; unlike "Soldier’s Last Letter" and "Old Shep," which made me cry, "Deck of Cards" ended up with the soldier being set free. I remember the duce was for the two great lights that God placed in the sky, the Sun to rule the day, and Moon to rule the night. The three represented the Holy Trinity, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The four card suits were four seasons, while the whole deck became 52 weeks of the year. Minus a deck of 52 playing cards, here are 52 easy to remember words highlighting the Scriptures - when we might be denied a Bible (as I was in Saudi Arabia). GOD MADE - ADAM BIT -NOAH ARKED -ABRAHAM SPLIT - JOSEPH RULED - JACOB FOOLED - BUSH TALKED - MOSES BALKED - PHARAOH PLAGUED - PEOPLE WALKED - SEA DIVIDED - TABLETS GUIDED - PROMISE LANDED - SAUL FREAKED - DAVID PEEKED - PROPHETS WARNED - CHRIST BORN - GOD WALKED - JESUS TALKED - ANGER CRUCIFIED - HOPE DIED - LOVE AROSE - SPIRIT FLAMED - WORD SPREAD - SATAN DEAD - WE LIVE.
